Berries, berries, berries, berries

We have reached the portion of our program where I am completely ready for school to be done and the only thing I care about very much is going strawberry picking. What can I say? 1) It’s not a terribly long season and 2) I’m a strawberry glutton. There are worse habits to have, I’m sure.

Monkey has started peering into his lunch bag each morning and saying, “Whaddaya know? STRAWBERRIES! I’M SHOCKED!” But it’s not a complaint, because what sort of weirdo would complain about fresh strawberries?? (Do not tell me the sad tale of your second cousin’s girlfriend’s cousin who was deathly allergic to strawberries. I know those people exist, and I am sad for them.)

If you need me, I will be in my kitchen, which looks like a crime scene, and I will be happy. If you need more words about strawberries (you do!) and some great recipes, come on over to Alpha Mom. Spoiler: Tonight for dessert we’re having strawberry basil frozen yogurt. YESSSSSSSSSSSS.

It COULD make you sad that I don’t care for strawberries, but I look at it as that means more for you!

So…I’m sitting at my desk salivating like Pavlov’s dog after reading your blog.

Please save a portion (or 2) of each of those recipes for me. The truth is, that almost any dish can be made better by adding or garnishing with strawberries.

    Looking forward to our visit.

Ahhhh….loud auto-play ad just loaded from your site. Do you want that?

Aaaaaack no. Can you tell me what the ad was for? I can check with my ad manager.

Okay so for the strawberry buttermilk ice (I have never tried this but I’ve seen it done on cooking shows which is almost the same thing), could you do it as a granita, where you go into the freezer every [some number of] minutes and scrape it, and then it turns into something sort of shaved-ice-ish?

I think you probably could, yes.

funny. I visited my aunt yesterday and saw that she had planted a container with strawberries and basil. Was surprised at the combination. I guess I shouldn’t have been. We are still waiting for the season to begin here in the Great White North in Toronto (Canada). Looking forward to it
