In the same kitchen where two small children are playing Connect Four with wild abandon (and seeming obliviousness to the fact that this was a really cool toy when WE were kids), there are four adults.
Between the grown-ups, there are three computers, two cell phones, and a video camera in use. All at the same time.
That right there is the definition of irony. Jackson got TWO toys that require batteries this year. He hasn’t played with one of them yet. I’m thrilled.
That sounds just about right. Merry Christmas to all, now let’s go huddle around our laptops.
That’s my kind of house!!
When were you at our house?
I am reading this in our living room. 2 adults and 2 kids. 2 laptops and 2 Gameboys in use. Sigh.
We played connect four this morning! Now there is a laptop, a leapster, and an ipod in use while we are lined up sitting on the couch sharing the ottomon. With one cat on the middle lap and one dog on the feet. Fun, cozy, family we are ~ waiting for time to pass so we can go bowling!!
“connect four”?
off to google. . . .
It’s a different world, isn’t it?
Connect Four is a pretty cool laptop. With a super sharp monitor.
Connect Four! I love that game. Sadly, you can also play it on the computer.
I’m looking around. Nope. Don’t see you. Could have sworn you were talking about my house!
Connect Four rules!
That is a beautiful thing.
For the record, I was using neither a cell phone nor a laptop this morning. I plead guilty to the video camera, though … hey, I am TRYING to go multimedia here …
What a wonderful post-Christmas treat: My whole family off from work/school (all week and part of next), my kids playing quietly – and nicely – in their bedroom, my dog worn out and lying beside me after a brisk walk, and now I am getting to catch up on your blog. *BLISS*
My son’s favourite thing to do today was go out with Dad. No toys, big knapsack full of old books – that was how he spent today. Total bliss on my part. :-)
I am laying in bed with the radio and tv on while on my laptop. My cell phone and regular phone are within 2 inches and my ipod is charging. Of course – I have no idea where my glasses are though.
It is a sign of the times when electronic gadgets take the place of quality family time. Children as young as 5 years old are getting Nintendo DS or Game Boys.
Remember the family trips of our time. Games like Slug Bug and the Alphabet Game were all we had to keep ourselves busy.
Ah gotta love the technology.
i LOVE technology. The descriptive name of my new Christmas dell notebook is “my precious.” I need to download connect four onto my Treo.
We got Connect Four for Xmas also. AND Blokus, mainly due to your raving about it. And ya know what? It is much loved by all. Even my husband enjoys it. We had a great “Blokus moment” when my neighbor, who becomes loud and talkitive (read: obnoxious) with the application of alcohol kept yelling, “I’m good at this because I’m SPATIAL! All those tests in school showed that I’m SPATIAL!”
Say it with a Southern accent (which we have, being in NC and all) and it becomes quite amusing. She is, in fact, quite SPATIAL.
