Today was gorgeous. We couldn’t have ordered better weather for Labor Day; for running around outside (the kids), for relaxing on the porch (us), for grilling and holding hands around the table and singing grace and enjoying the meal and the company.
It was a wonderful reminder. As a dear friend of mine says: Life is hard. God is good.
It’s the balance between the two that I often have trouble achieving. Today, it was easier.
Here’s a partial list of some things I got to have today. I’ll leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine which ones I’ll remember with clarity a year from now, and which ones are already fading from memory:
1) The umpteenth repetition of the “I don’t mind if you make a mess with your things, but you have to clean it up afterwards” talk.
2) Fresh muffins, accompanied by spontaneous excitement about and thanks for said muffins from the creatures who usually preface every food encounter with “That looks yucky.”
3) A discussion with Chickadee about why they haven’t “just let the water out of that place” yet and what people are doing to help others and how lucky we are to live where we do and have the things we have.
4) One small boy scaling my chair, depositing himself in my lap, holding my face in his hands, and declaring, “I am SO AH-CITED to be starting kindergarten tomorrow!”
5) Entirely too much barbecue and corn on the cob, followed by a big root beer float.
6) My first agreement for a paying freelance gig.
I’ll guess – the freelance gig, and the “ah-cited” little boy!
That was really quite mean of you…. to just throw that out there like that and then GO TO BED!
I mean..just how much corn on the cob is too much???? ;)
verrry sneaky saving that for the end … I’m all thinking “aaawww, aaaw… !!!”
Well, congratulations!!
good for you for the paying freelance gig!!!
Chickadee has the right idea. I hadn’t thought about it but most children are probably thinking the same. In fact, me too! Congtrats on the freelance gig. And hey for Monkey.
Congrats on making food that your children will eat! That was the important one, right ;-)
Whoooo-ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :) Congrats, Mir, and happy root-beer floating!
Awww…”AH-cited” That is just TOO cute!
It sounds like a wonderful day!
Congrats on the gig!
Congrats on the muffins!
And the gig. :-)
What?? How the hell did that happen so fast! Congrats … and spill it! What’s your secret?
It’s the least you can do after eating my child …
what an exquisite day! i think all of its facets will come back to warm you as time goes on. way to go on landing a freelance job!
WOW! That was fast! Not that I’m surprised that someone would be quick to recognize your fantastic talent and snap you up! Big congratulations, Tulip!
Congratulations on the paying gig! That’s great — and much deserved. I’m sure there’ll be many more to follow.
YAY you!!!!
Congrats and happy giggin’
Those business cards must really be working! Congratulations!
MIR ROCKS!
Congrats on the gig. Getting paid for doing the thing you love to do is the icing on the devil’s food cake!
This is the first of the avalanch of offers coming your way. Count on it.
I am soooooo happy for you, you don’t know.
A paying gig and I don’t even get a phone call?
(Note: That was not intended to spawn guilt.) You should feel pretty damn good about yourself and I don’t want to interfere with any of the overdue euphoria. You deserve it!
It shouldn’t be long before you have to wear dark glasses in public to avoid the onslaught of papparazzi.
We love you.
Way to go, Mir!!
A PAYING FREELANCE GIG?????
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
You must be so ah-cited.
It sounds like you had a lovely, lovely day. Wishing you many more like it.
