We had “one last IEP meeting” before taking our precious snowflake and vowing never to return to elementary school (um, next year, I mean… we’re not ditching the last month of school this year), except that things didn’t go quite the way we’d planned. And now, of course, I have to come up with a new plan, except that I’ve been dared to make peace with no plan for a little while.
As you might expect, this is making me completely mental. I mean, moreso than usual, even.

Just don’t start the rapid blink, that always makes them nervous.
Seriously, it’s ok to not have a plan for a little while. I think the “right thing” will come to you when it comes to you. Whether it’s an “aha” moment or it just makes the most sense at a certain time. That does not have to be today.

What does Monkey want?
I agree with StephLove. We included our kids in the decision, because I wasn’t going to be someone who forces them to homeschool when they don’t want to.
Monkey wants to stay with his one and only true BFF, because Change Is Bad. So there’s that. (Not that that alone would be enough if the school was being unhelpful, but you know.)
Hee, I also always feel that Change! Is! Bad!
But I think that after a mere week or so (of torment for the whole family, I’m sure), Monkey would secretly be happier homeschooled by you.
Maybe now you’ll be forced to give the school its “one more chance”, but you have a backup plan in place if they FAIL.
