1) Although this year was my fourth time being part of my local production, everything was different this time because Chickadee was in it with me, too. We could not have picked a better way to come full circle from the first time I was in it, years ago. (And if you want to read more about her, head over to Alpha Mom. I don’t know if you know this, but I am awfully fond of that kid.)
2) I’m not sure how (lies, I know how; I am largely oblivious), but my ENTIRE FAMILY conspired with Kira and kept me completely in the dark until SHE APPEARED AT MY FRONT DOOR ON SATURDAY and I started screaming loudly enough for her to hear me outside. This is because Kira lives 2,000 miles away, and I had no idea she was coming, and in fact I hadn’t even asked her to try to get to the show this year because we’ve never been able to manage it before AND she went back to college this year and went from being insanely busy to actual, like, truth-is-less-believable-than-fiction levels of swamped. But she came all this way to see the show and spent less than a day with me because she is the best.
3) There is video. [Editing to add: NSFW video, obvs.] My husband set up shop the night he came to see the show and so if you missed it but are dying to see my piece (and if you are, I am both flattered and slightly uneasy, but that’s another matter…), you can. But Imma put it after the jump, here, because I don’t think we need it sitting right on the front page. If you don’t need video, you’re done.
Disclaimer: The last time I was in Monologues I posted a video and a commenter said something along the lines of how brave I was to share such a personal story, so let me take this opportunity to clarify that the show is based on real stories, but we’re all just actors with a script. I am not, in fact, a dominatrix. Just in case you were confused.
That said, enjoy!
Saving the video to enjoy in the privacy of home. Guessing it’s NSFW. ;-)
Oh, right. YEAH, NSFW. Forgot to mention that.
That was fabulous…so glad you could experience this with Chickie and your BFF
Brava!
Brava! Thanks so much for sharing!
You were amazing! Worth every minute of the trip!
Brilliant! and, indeed, very brave, even if it’s not your own story! The dominatrix thing always makes me think of the movie “Eating Raoul, ” “Lick my boot, pig!” ;-)
LOL.. Yes, BRAVE!! and you are indeed talented, all. Congrats –
Hahaha, this was greatly amusing to watch. :D You should be an actress, Mir! I think you’ve found your new profession.
I loved your nod of approval at the end of the tripple moan. Smug in the best possible way. :D You rock!
Can’t wait until later to watch!!
you were excellent! I really enjoyed the whole show Saturday. I’m glad I finally got my act together enough to see it. :)
I didn’t even see you! Darn it!! (Glad you enjoyed!)
What an amazing experience! So proud of Chickie!!
Amazing performance! I had no idea you were such an actress!
What a great performance! Glad you and Chickadee could share this.
I saw the V Monologues in NOLA at the Saenger in mumblety mumblety. with Elizabeth Ashley. It was an anniversary gift from my husband. Was great. I wondered if it’s been changed over the years to add/delete things? Subject matter is infinite.
I appreciate your mumblety mumblety. ;)
There are a number of pieces which are unchanged since the show’s debut, but pieces are added all the time, and each year there is some freedom for directors to add or drop pieces, so yes, there’s been some changes. One year I was in a piece called “Say It” which was about the Japanese Comfort Women, and wasn’t part of the original script. This year, Chickie was in a piece called “My Short Skirt,” which was originally performed by Calista Flockheart and is also (relatively) new. And we finished this year with a piece called My Revolution, which I’ve never heard before. So yes, it evolves, some.
Thanks! I will let my husband know we need to see it again.
Wow – that was great!!! Second career on the stage? :)
