Love is grateful, day 4

By Mir

We finally have a local Trader Joe’s, and I am probably more grateful for it than is reasonable.

Go ahead and scoff, but I’ll take my convenient, low-price, delicious opportunities to be elevated to hero status where I can find them, thanks.

I’m not scoffing! I’m grateful right along with you.

  2. navhelowife

Hey! They opened up one here in Greenville, about five minutes away. And can you believe it? I haven’t been there yet! What is *wrong* with me? :)

  3. Deirdre

Still waiting in Syracuse. :( Heh–maybe it’ll be part of the Carousel Mall Expansion, currently known as the Big Empty.

  4. KirstyB

Yummy!! I haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in forever. I might just have to make a trip for these!! :)

I would never scoff. I’m packing up to leave an area with Trader Joe’s to one without Trader Joe’s. I’m going tomorrow to stuck up on chocolate filled Joe-Joe’s and salted dark chocolate caramels.

    And Island Soyaki sauce.

    And wine.

  6. Julie

How did I ever cook Thanksgiving dinner without Trader Joe’s??

  7. Jamie

Would love one here, but no…

  8. Annette

Oreos has a limited editon candy cane flavor as well. We have a Trader Joes, but with a large family, I feel ridiculous buying so many of the small packages to have enough for all of us. Sam’s club is basically my grocery store:)

  9. Chuck

I am JEALOUS! In fact, Trader Joe’s is one of the few good things about moving to Chicago in 2012 that keeps me from being depressed about returning to cold winters.

  10. Brenna

Hah! Just hit post on an entry about Trader Joe’s seconds ago. Also, please try the white chocolate peppermint pretzel slims. I mean, they have “slims” in the name, so…health food.

  11. Jen B

    are those gluten free? ;)

and they have salted dark chocolate caramels? i must get some. i haven’t been there in months – i think it’s time for a visit!

  12. Grace

When I went to my local TJ’s tonight and saw the Candy Cane JoJos were in, nearly wept with joy.

  13. Susan

I love those! My mom brought bought me some a couple days ago and with only two of us in the house, they were gone in less than 48 hours. And I am not even ashamed. Much.

I love the fleur de sel caramels they have at Christmastime. Not the chocolate ones, which to me don’t taste like caramel at all inside. Just the chewy caramels that come in the round wooden box. They tend to run out of them quickly, though.

  14. Heather

Ooooh I want one. Those look yummy. I have no sweets in the house…it’s a problem.

  15. Half Assed Kitchen

Does anyone not heart TJs? Gosh, I love that place.

  16. Kathy

The chocolate covered peppermint JoJoes … oh good heavens! And now I hear about dark chocolate salted caramels and white chocolate peppermint pretzel slims? I’m in the weeping with joy camp! Will go tomorrow … even thought it’s not really closeby … I am grateful it is within 20 miles!!! ;)

By the by … thanks for the gratefulness reminders. Sometimes I tend to forget!! Tonight, I’m grateful for you!

  17. Lady M

Love Trader Joe’s! We snacked on dried apricots and mixed nuts from TJs on the whole drive to my parents’ house this week.

  18. Barbara

I just bought a box of those last night. It was really hard to ‘fess up & share them with hubby & the kids.

  19. Jenn

I love their waffle butter cookie-wafer-things. I can eat a box in one sitting and tend to growl at anyone else who wants one.

  20. Jill

There’s not even one in my STATE. The closest is 2 hours away, sniff sniff. But every time I’m in Cincinnati, I try to go to TJs and stock up.

  21. Sheila

    Trader Joe’s for President!

  22. Amanda

OMG Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s are AMAZING! If we were religious, these would totally be our manna from heaven.

  23. kakaty

I just about had to knock down an old lady to get the last box of peppermint JoJos at my TJs last week. What can I say, she was taking to long dithering about her frozen food purchase and blocking the shelf.

  24. Jen

So jealous!!!! Those are the best cookies ever, and the closest TJs is about four hours away. I’m so sad.

  25. Anna

Those do look good. And they’re gluten free? No Trader Joe’s around here. Whole Foods has a lot of gluten free stuff, but they’re lacking in the GF peppermint sandwich cookie department.

  26. Aimee

I am always grateful for Trader Joe’s! I have a tub of their Orange Cranberry Relish in my fridge right now just waiting for me to roast the turkey to accompany it. It’s the Best! Cranberry! Sauce! Ever!

Mir, you inspired me this week to think about what I am truly grateful for. Thanks for that. And I thought it worth mentioning, that one of the things that I am grateful for is your blog and writing. I’m just coming through the hardest year of my life. And very often your words came at the precise right moment to give me hope and knowledge that it was OK to slug through in the hopes of being happier. In fact, my Facebook page has a quote from you: “Sometimes grace pops up in ways you didn’t expect, giving you enough faith to keep going down even a very hard road.” I would often come back to that when I was feeling down.

I randomly had a dream last night that I attended an IEP with you and Monkey (weird, right? I blame the pregnancy hormones). What I woke up feeling strongly about after that dream is you will come out on the other side of this. I worked in education for 10 years specifically in the realm of remediation and IEPs. Your dedication to Monkey is what will see him through this and help him navigate to a place where he knows exactly what he needs to thrive.

Thank you for always giving a gift to your readers. You make my world a little better every morning.

candy cane joe-joe’s are the best!!

  29. dad

Do they have four buck chuck? (I’ve allowed for inflation)

  30. Mandee

I drove 40 minutes north last Friday night to hit the TJ’s in Midtown. I had a sinking feeling when there were no candy cane Joe Joe’s with all the other seasonal treats so I finally asked. And ended up reserved a CASE from the shipment arriving on Sunday morning. Everyone now knows what they are getting for Christmas.

We have a TJs 10 miles from us, and two more that are 20 miles away. I try to get to one whenever I am near it. Great store, great staff, great food. I had my first experience at a Wegman’s the other day — one opened about 12 miles away. Different experience, but also on the WOW! scale.

Now I’m jonesing for peppermint joe-joes.

  32. Nikki

TJ’s makes life worth living. That is all.

  33. Jennifer

I do not know of this Trader Joes of which you speak…..I guess I officially live in the MIDDLE OF NO WHERE!!! (Kirksville, MO)

  34. JennyM

Yes! We’ve got one now too! (As navhelowife said…) No longer must we import Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s from out of state! I was in TJ last night and saw the big stack of CCJJs and it was like the choirs of angels began singing.

Fun Fact: They are mighty tasty with beer. And if you have a Whole Foods nearby, I think you can get gluten-free beer. I’m just saying.

  35. Karen

I have to travel 45 minutes to the nearest Trader Joes… but good GAWD.. are those candy cane OREO type cookies????…..

    Where are my car keys….

  36. Sharon

Thank you for reminding me about these. They are the best!

  37. elz

I pine for Trader Joe’s. Seriously. Inexpensive, good food, easy prep. Do you know how much easier my evenings would be with Trader Joe’s?! It is one of life’s greatest injustices that Texas doesn’t have one!! Also, peanut butter filled chocolate pretzels of happiness? Oh my!

  38. KGP

Trader Joe’s is one of the things I miss most about living in NYC. I mean, yes, Syracuse has Wegmans and all, but Trader Joe’s is beyond awesome.

  39. Lynn

There are this many people in the world that do not live by a TJ’s? The horror. The horror. I only just finished the boxes of these that I hoarded from last year.

  40. Katie in MA

I never understood the draw to Trader Joe’s. Until now. Pulling up the location finder right now…
