Once upon a time I only wrote here. That was okay, but it rather interfered with my plans for world domination.
Now I write here and there and everywhere. And I will write stuff in a box, and I will write stuff with a fox, I will write stuff in a coat, and I will write stuff with a goat. But I still think green eggs should be avoided.
Not all of my writing is online, of course. But do you really want to read my scintillating take on why this particular shoe liner is going to revolutionize the athletic shoe industry? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Want Not is my “bargain baby,” a blog all about living frugally without deprivation. I got sick of the sorts of places that insist you can save money by never having anything you want and/or clipping coupons and making your own toothpaste out of mouse droppings. Come on over and learn a bit about “having it all with less,” and maybe have a giggle while you’re there.
Want to know more about where I work? Why, I’m right here in my Cornered Office, of course. I’m delighted to be amongst the fabulous women over at Work It, Mom! as one of their intrepid bloggers. Cornered Office is all about the trials and travails of being a freelancer, being a mom, and being a freelancing mom. Thinking of heading out into the world of sole proprietorship? Already there? Come on over! Just remember: You can go home, but you can never leave. (Extra special bonus: I am now a regular contributor to the Affordable Luxuries blog at Work It, Mom!, too.)
For a life-long bookworm like me, it’s truly a dream come true to get to work with the fine folks over at Scholastic. (I know—I’m a dork. You don’t need to tell me.) But after years of doodling hearts in the margins of the Scholastic book order forms, I’m now reviewing books for them weekly. Come on over to Kitchen Table Reviews to listen in our family’s evaluation of various things that we read. The only thing better than a great book is talking about it with the ones you love—even if our opinions don’t always mesh.
Start going green, but hold the guilt—along with the team at Idbids, I’m now working on taking “iddy biddy steps” towards a better planet, over on the Iddy Biddy Blog. It’s all about little ways to work towards more mindful living, without the self-flagellation that can so often come along with falling short. I’ll celebrate the victories, and, um, point at shiny things to distract you from the things that are less than perfect. Heh.
I know, I know… I can’t believe it, either. Liz and Kristen totally lost a bet and had to hire me! But I’m the latest addition to the Cool Mom Picks team, ready to try my hand at pretending to be cool. (Not that they’re not cool. They are. But I’m not. Except I am. Or I’m going to try to be. Ummm… let’s pretend we never had this conversation, k? Thanks.) (Hey, I’m a mom and I pick things. 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.)
What?
I’m a regular contributor to Daily Grommet, where intriguing products and services are highlighted for your consideration. You definitely won’t find the “same old stuff” here, and while I’m just writing blurbs, each Grommet comes with a fun video of a couple of team members testing it out. It’s sort of like QVC, except much, much cooler. And without viewer phone calls. Or timers. Or stupid crap no one wants. Okay, fine; it isn’t anything like QVC.
Milk does a body good, and for a loquacious dairy-lover like me, it does a body good to write about it sometimes, too. I’m working in partnership with the folks who bring you 3aday.org to write some pieces about how my family incorporates dairy into our routine. These pieces are posted at Gather about once a month.
I am pleased to be in excellent company amongst a group of amazing women, as a Contributing Editor for the BlogHer community. I am currently contributing to the site about once a week. Sometimes I write original thoughts over there, but most of the time I just jump up and down and point and say “Look what she said! Wow! Go read it!” That’s why they hired me; I’m smooth like that.
I like lists. It turns out that there’s a thing or two I know how to do in just five steps, and so maybe then I felt the need to write it down in a nice orderly list and share it with the world in a place where everything comes in a nice orderly list. Sometimes, life is tidy like that.
