Something in my eye (pt 2)

I have been so busy dealing with school and kids and STUFF that I completely forgot to tell you that I’m now on my third type of contact lenses. Because I’m a slow learner.

No, actually, I think these current lenses might be working out okay. We’ll see. But I am still completely mystified as to why it’s so important to me that I figure out a way to stick something on my eyeballs rather than just wear my damn glasses. I mean, I do enjoy an unfettered face and clear vision, but really, at this point I sort of feel like cold fusion is more likely than a corrective lens I can wear for longer than six hours.

Also, apparently while I was wearing the same pair of prescription sunglasses for the last six years, current sunglass styles trended towards “cover your entire face.” My quest for cute non-prescription sun protection now leaves me wondering if my eye protection is supposed to double as lip cover, as well.

My life is complicated, y’all.

I hear ya! My two year old broke my beloved (cute, sleek, small, stylish) sunglasses and when I went looking for another pair everything I tried on took up 3/4 of my face. The sunglasses these days are hu-uge! Good luck!

If there is a brand of glasses that you like, google them and the word sunglasses. I got some Lulu Guinness sunglasses (retro style, modern prices. unless you eBay. Then they are slightly more reasonable), but there are brands like Lucky, Bebe, etc, out there.

Of course, I had an eye dr who was very insistent that I just needed to ‘adjust’ and now have five months worth of contacts sitting on nightstand, 3 months after buying them….

Mir, you almost have me thinking it’s time to try contacts again. Almost.

Contacts? I keep cancelling my eye appointments because I have a fear of glasses. Then today I walked into a wall. Yeah, I’ll make another appointment. I might have to try contacts… or give up driving or something. Sigh.

Everytime I get a new set of glasses I get a pair of the sunglasses, but I always forget I have them so I never wear them. I wish I could wear contacts but the one time I tried them they killed my eyes. I went in once to see the leading specialist in our town for lasiks but they said I didn’t have enough room on my retinas so they urged me to not do it. Sigh… I really hate bad vision.

Eeurgh! I hope my prescription sunglasses hold out for another decade or so. I associate those new gigantic-style glasses with the worst and tackiest of late 70s/early 80s stereotypes. Hack, ptooey.

Yes, what is it with sunglasses these days? I feel so old and unstylish by refusing to succumb. But as for my burning question…..What about Super?!?! I’m on the edge of my seat. I have no nails left. Inquiring minds want to know!!

Take comfort in the fact that huge sunglasses provide more sun protection for the area around the eyes, where wrinkles form first. If I had known, I would have continued to wear my retrohuge sunglasses, fashion-be-damned, with a turtleneck to protect my throat. Or maybe a burkha.

Its so you can find them in the ginormous purses they’re making now. [says the person who likes SMALL purses so as not to inadvertently end up carrying half her file drawer and the majority of her medicine cabinet]

I finally ordered new glasses this weekend…my first new pair in EIGHT years. I know, I know but I couldn’t find any I liked! I finally just settled because my current one are about to fall off of my face. Any Super sightings???

I actually like the big sunglasses. I didn’t think I would, but holy moly, it makes a difference to have my peripheral vision shaded. Also, I can delude myself that wearing such huge glasses will make me look Olsen-twin/Rachael Zoe tiny.

My husband is an incredibly talented destroyer of sunglasses; we’re lucky if he goes two weeks without breaking or losing a pair. I buy him cheap sunglasses constantly, but sometimes he finds himself without any, or perhaps with only half a pair, which isn’t all that useful. So THAT is why he has been seeing sailing the Gulf of Mexico wearing a pair of oversized Nine West glasses with rhinestones on the rim. He’s man enough to carry it off… and he’s also remarked on the effectiveness of my giant glasses.

I’ve been away from the ‘net for a week and wow! Have you ever had lots going on!?!?!? So…

    1. That darn Super! OMG! Whichever way you choose to go on that one, I wish you the best!

    2. When I read your story about letting the kids “go”, it makes me happy that we chose not to have children. I love them dearly but I don’t know that I would have the strength to handle these growing pain types of things!

    3. You and Grandma Rose are both very, very beautiful!

    4. I LOVE my contacts. Have been wearing them since high school, as soon as I was old enough to decide for myself (mom didn’t like the whole concept of sticking something on your eyeball!)

For a more sleek, svelte look in sunglasses, try your nearest Harley-Davidson or sporting goods store. Unless you WANT to look like Jackie-O.

The only part of the big Jacki-O glasses I don’t like is when my friends and I lean in to get a pic with the cellphone the glasses CLACK together and give us an eye ache

I’m trying to work up the courage (and the big bucks) for The Laser. Talk me out of it, mkay?
