Chickadee: Mama, how many days until vacation?
Me: Well, let’s see. You go to school the rest of this week, and then next week. Then you’re off for a week.
Chickadee: How many days is that?
Me: Hmmm… 9 days until no more school.
Chickadee: And then it’ll be SUMMER! YAY!
Me: Uhhhh… no. It’s winter break, honey.
Chickadee: Aww, man!

OMG, I was so excited when I read that. And then, oof. Blow to the senses.
Can you tell I’ve been housebound with three sick kids and the flu myself? Bleh.

My son suggests we go swimming all the time.
At the outdoor pool.
“No, they are closed.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s winter.”
We have this talk just about every day.
